Press Digits
Let your AI agent press keypad (DTMF) digits during a live call, like entering an extension, a PIN, or a confirmation code.
The Press Digits tool lets your AI agent send touch-tone (DTMF) keypad digits during a live call — the same tones a caller sends when they press keys on their own phone.
How It Works
- Agent Decision: Your AI agent decides, based on the conversation, that digits need to be pressed
- Digit Sequence: The agent chooses the full sequence of digits to send in a single call to the tool
- Tones Played: The digits play as real touch-tones over the call in real time
- Conversation Continues: The call carries on normally afterward — nothing else changes
Configuration
Press Digits is a built-in tool with no configuration — attach it to a node and your agent decides which digits to press and when, live during the call.
Valid characters are 0-9, *, and #. Always pass a complete sequence (a full PIN, extension number, or confirmation code) in one call — not one call per digit. Digits play back-to-back with no pause between them, so avoid asking the agent to enter multiple separate values (like an extension, then a pause, then a PIN) in a single call.
Agent Usage
press_digits(digits="4521")Common scenarios:
- Entering an extension number after being transferred to a phone system
- Keying in a PIN or confirmation code requested by the person or system on the other end
- Responding to a short "press 1 for..." prompt while calling out on the caller's behalf
